Will Carmichael served as an Officer in the Black Watch of the British Army for 13 years, after having trained in the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst. During this time he served all over the world and gained experience and knowledge about the complexities of international relations and geo-politics, particularly with regards to the oil, gas and energy sectors. In 1993, Will left the Army to complete an International MBA at Edinburgh University. In 1994, he commenced a career in the energy industry, working for Bechtel in the Algerian Sahara on various pipeline projects.

His career extended to a position with Anadarko, where Wil worked for Groupement Berkine on a joint Sonatrach/Anadarko project in the Algerian Sahara. Will’s next position took him closer to home, where he was employed by global energy consultants, M&C, based in Scotland. In 1996 Will took on the role as Managing Director of NewsBase in Edinburgh, Scotland. The company was founded in Edinburgh in 1995 by its current Chairman, Gavin Don. Newsbase is still owned and is operated by the original investors.

Will’s diverse and expansive experience has contributed to NewsBase by strengthening and growing the company. This can be seen in the publication’s consistent increase in readership and influence in the industries it serves.
